4th Annual Blue Grass Festival on the Square in Coldspring

Republican Debate Team

Did You Know?

by Yvonne Cones

If you live in precincts 1 or 3, you can now vote for your commissioner in early voting and then the final day is on May 28. There was a debate between the four candidates standing for the positions recently with another debate coming on May 6 at the Republican HQ in Coldspring. Other run offs will follow so watch out for those dates of call the Administration Office for information. Shown in the photo are Luke Sweeney, Laddie McAnally, Tim Fulcher and Cheri Sewell Walker.

On May 18 Shepherd Library is having a Chili Cook Off at Shepherd Community Center Pavilion. Forms and rules are available on the website or pick them up at the Library. There will be plenty to do and see on the day. Waggin Tales will be there with some dogs for adoption, Ranger Joel is bringing his Archery Set Up to show how to use the bow and (safe) arrows and a face painter will be busy decorating faces! Music and food of course will be there. You can buy a different kind of ‘dog’ in a bun, Chili of course will be available and the winner will have a trophy to show off at the end of the day. Call 936-628-3515 for more information.

Coldspring Garden Club will have a Field Trip on May 1 to Lucy’s Country Store and Tea Room on Country Rd. 2177, Cleveland. Members. Please meet at 10 AM at the Community Center. Call 832-797 1310 for more info.
The Garden Club had a fund raiser on Saturday at the Court House on Trades Day.  I was happy to buy the remaining Aloe Vera plants on sale and a lovely little succulent which will be perfect for the porch.

The day was windy but many people turned out to see and hear the Blue Grass Band perform. It was close by Mt Moriah Masonic Lodge who were having a fundraiser for ‘Quilts For Kids' by selling their excellent BBQ sandwiches.

Did you know that the Small Business Development Center offers free webinars? Presently they have several recorded webinars on how to keep your business safe from Fraud and Cyber Fraud Protection.  Go to the web site for the SBDC to know more. These webinars are free and very informative! You may also book an appointment with IT Specialist Brad Bricker who will help you with your problems and questions. There is so much fraud and scamming out there, it is good to learn how to protect your business.

Daiquiris To Go and Family Restaurant will celebrate ‘Cinco De Mayo’ on Sunday May 5 with a Crawfish Boil. Of course they sell other food too and you can find out more on their web page. Call 346-988-5059, located at 2700 S. Byrd Ave, Shepherd.

Next month Friends of Hopewell will celebrate “Juneteenth” on June 15. It will be a packed day, starting at 9 AM on the west side of the Courthouse with the Emancipation Proclamation and program, followed by the Parade at 10 AM. At 11 AM activities at Hopewell Center will begin, located at 166 Perry Rd, just past Lincoln High School.  Entry forms for the Parade on Coldspring and Shepherd Chamber web sites or email esterwynn@aol.com.
